So we went to the baby radar place today. Come to find out she is actually pregnant.
I took my video camera to the appointment, which felt pretty awkward. It felt stupid to be walking around with a camera and a big, stupid grin on my face, but I got the footage and that's what matters.

The invasion of New Orleans
We invited my parents down for a visit and we took them just about everywhere. We went to the WWII museum, which features the brand spanking new docu-film Beyond all Boundaries, starring Tom Hanks in role of "Narrator." We went down to the 9th Ward to show them all the damage done by Katrina that still hasn't been repaired. We went and had the best chicken in America at Willie Mays, so voted by the Food Network as well as other notable culinary periodicals. We went down to the French Quarter, but it was after noon, so they were kind of distracted by all the different food smells. I don't know how much they actually saw. We went to a Hornets game and watched the the 6-8 Hornets put a defensive clinic on a young, talented Atlanta Hawks team. The Hornets were without All-Star point guard, Chris Paul, who averages about 23 points, 9.7 assists and 1.7 steals a game so far this year, but that didn't seem to matter as fill-in, rookie, point guard Darren Collison dropped 22 points and 11 assists against the 11-year NBA veteran Mike Bibby. Tremendous game. Yeah, I'm kind of a fan. We had a lot of really good food, which we tried to squeeze as much in as possible. There were a lot of food comas. Here's some pics.

I almost died climbing over the seats to get this shot. Really. There's no railing or glass or anything to really keep you from falling down into the first level.

Ma and Pa on the trolley. This was about our third time going down the same street. I'm a bad tour guide.

This is the milk carton photo right here. "Missing! Please help!" No, they actually said they had a good time and no muggers were involved. We went to the worst, most dangerous neighborhoods in the city and we didn't get shot at once. NOT ONCE!

My lil cake maker
Every year Jenn's school has the Fall Festival, which is a pretty big deal. They have live music, local food and a bouncy house. What's not to like? One thing that they do as part of the festival is a cake contest for the teachers and staff. They give them a subject and they let them run wild with it. Jenn loves the contest. Last year the subject was something to do with reading, so she made a cake built to resemble the Cat in the Hat's hat. It was four cakes high and she frosted it herself. It was an unbelievable work of ingenuity. An architectural wonder. This year's subject was Around the World and Jenn, again, looked for the unusual approach. She made cakeshaped like a suitcase with frosting stickers on it from Hawaii, France, the US and a Canadian luggage tag. Pretty sweet.
Oh, and here's Jenn's friend, Van's cake.
Don't know exactly what it's suppose to be. It has over two dozen toothpicks and almost a million calories in it so it's definitely a health hazard.
This is a test
This seemed like a good idea when I was considering it a week ago, but now I'm not sure. All I've written about in the last two years has been all about the Coast Guard. While I don't think I'm going to completely divert from that, this will definitely be a way for me to detach from work and write about something different. All good things, but I've started a lot of different journals and I'd say about 2/3 of them never got past the first entry. We'll just have to see how long this'll keep my interest.
