Mardi Gras stuffs

I don't know if you know this, but Mardi Gras is pretty big down here. It's pretty big for my office too as the Coast Guard float participates in over 6 of the main parades. We also do a lot of security on the water and in the air, so there's a lot of stories to cover. Here are the projects and shots I've put out so far.

The admiral's personal chef, John Ross, is doing what he does best: mooching off of his position to flirt with older women.

Adm. Landry enjoying her last Mardi Gras before she retires in June. My back hurt for the next two days after I got this shot.

Adm. Landry gives King Zulu, one of the monarchs of Mardi Gras, her admirals coin.

Coast Guard Cutter Razorbill doing its night-patrol thing. You know how we do.

Fireworks are lit off over Cutter Barbara Mabrity after Mardi Gras is officially kicked off in downtown New Orleans. Worst seat in the house.

This dude's name is Joebert Schmoll. I couldn't make up a better name if I tried.

King Rex, the other Mardi Gras monarch arrives in downtown to meet up with King Zulu to get the party doing. Every year they vote on who the king is and then get him drunk and dress him up like the Burger King. Another weird New Orleans tradition.

For the last two years I've put together video projects on the overall Coast Guard operation during Mardi Gras, but this year I wanted to do something with a more focused topic. I thought following a first-time float rider around while he prepares for his trip would make interesting watching.
